Is a bridesmaid dresses too "loud" for any wedding guest?

A good friend of mine gets married this summer—the exact date and venue weren't set yet. We were taking a look at bridal mags together and I pointed to some photo of the red dress and joked, "I'm likely to wear a RED dress for your wedding!" Her response: "YES!"

She has great taste and I love the thought of wearing a red dress, but is the fact that appropriate for any wedding? It will be a conventional Christian ceremony then a fairly tame reception with a few dancing.

Also, I love the gown below—but I don't love the high cost. I can't save money than $80. Help!

Here are my thoughts:

If the bride to be says you can put on red to her wedding, proceed! There are times when certain colors might be considered culturally inappropriate, but obviously, the bride to be would've let you know if your potential dress would offend her relatives!

Here are five I like which are all which you can afford. (Just remember to pack something to pay for your shoulders when the ceremony's inside a church.)

Would you wear red to some wedding? Which one of those petite mother of the bride dresses is the favorite?
